5 area athletes compete for Castleton
BRATTLEBORO — Devin Millerick finished with a .311 batting average during her freshman season with the Castleton University softball team.
The 2017 Brattleboro Union High School graduate had 23 hits in 74 plate appearances. She drove in nine runs, swiped six bases and crossed the plate 15 times.
Mckinlie Carpenter, who is also a former Colonel, had a dozen hits and five runs batted in for the 11-17 Spartans.
Sam Siegel exploded for 15 goals, 11 assists and 27 ground balls during his senior season with the Castleton men's lax team. He finished with a hat trick during an 11-10 decision over SUNY Canton.
The BUHS grad ended his college career with 92 tallies and 56 assists. He also scooped up 109 ground balls and caused 27 turnovers.
Castleton went 10-8 this spring, losing 12-7 to New England College in the NAC Championship game.
Morgan Derosia racked up 12 goals, a dozen assists, 20 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers during her first season with the Spartans. The sophomore midfielder went off for a hat trick and an assist versus Maine Maritime on March 31.
The Vernon resident helped Castleton to a 12-10 victory over Colby-Sawyer in the NAC title game. The team then fell to Babson 17-4 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Spartans wound up with an 11-7 mark.
Track and Field
Former Bellows Falls varsity quarterback Caleb Lisai competed in outdoor track during his freshman year at Castleton. He finished fourth in the high jump at the NAC Championship meet by clearing 1.63 meters.
