A rewarding release

Starting in January, fifth graders from the NewBrook Elementary School in Newfane raised brook trout from eggs to fingerlings. Over the last several months, students monitored aquarium water quality, engaged in stream habitat studies, learned to appreciate water resources, investigated local watersheds, and made journal entries focusing on ecosystems. Peder Rude and the Connecticut River Chapter of Trout Unlimited provided financial support and volunteered their time. On Saturday, 16 youths traveled to Grassy Brook to culminate this project as stewards for one of the many tributaries in the West River Valley.
