ALSTEAD, N.H. - Police say a 14-year-old boy suffered serious injuries when he was hit in the face by a projectile from a potato gun. The name of the boy wasn't released.

Alstead police say the gun was made of PVC piping and used hairspray as a propellant, which was ignited by a spark.

The boy was hit in the face about 3:30 p.m. Sunday when it went off while he and two friends were examining it.

The boy was flown by helicopter to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
