Anglers raise money for therapeutic riding center

BRATTLEBORO — More than 50 anglers helped raise more than $300 at the Southern Vermont Therapeutic Riding Center's second annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Retreat Meadows.

The Grand Prizes for each of the four categories were as follows:

- Adult Longest Panfish - Wesley Dow won $100 donated by SVTRC,

- Adult Longest 'Other' Fish - Cody Koncal won an Ice Fishing Prize Pack (over $100 value) donated by Runnings,

- Junior Longest Panfish - Cody Hescock won $100 donated by SVTRC,

- Junior Longest 'Other' Fish - Kyler Chouinard also won an Ice Fishing Prize Pack (over $100 value) donated by Runnings.

The following sponsors donated door raffle items: Sonny's Cup n' Saucer, WW Building Supply, Brown and Roberts, Whetstone Station Restaurant, Sam's Outdoor Outfitters, Bittersweet Memories Bakery and Cafe, The Fitzpatrick Family, Walmart, and Earle's Bait Shop. Dunkin' Donuts of Canal Street donated coffee and doughnuts for breakfast.

SVTRC provides Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies to children and adults with various physical, emotional, and cognitive needs who live in Windham County and the surrounding area. SVTRC partners with area organizations such as the HCRS, Families First, Kindle Farm, local elementary and high schools, as well as with individuals and their families. At any one time, SVTRC is providing programming to as many as 30 youth and adults, with three equine partners.

Currently, 96 percent of SVTRC participants receive a subsidized lesson rate, thanks to fundraisers and grants.
