Area trio to race at Wickham Park

BRATTLEBORO — After leading the Bellows Falls varsity girls cross-country team to a gold medal in the Division 3 state meet in Thetford on Oct. 26, sophomores Abby Broadley and Stephanie Ager will now compete in the New England Meet on Saturday at Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn.

Broadley defended her D-3 individual title and was the third fastest female on the Thetford course, in a time of 19:39. Only Harwood's Ava Thurston (19:19) and Champlain Valley Union's Alicia Veronneau (19:33) finished ahead of her.

Ager was the 24th fastest female in the Vermont meet, being clocked in 21:28.

On Nov. 2, Hinsdale's Maggie St. John placed 19th overall in 19 minutes flat at the Meet of Champions in Nashua, N.H. She became the first runner in program history to qualify for the New England Meet.

Bishop Guertin's Caroline Fischer won that 5k race in 17:55. Souhegan's Chloe Trudel was the runner-up in 17:59, over what St. John referred to as a "fast course."

Saturday's 85th annual New England Interscholastic girls cross-country race will begin at 11:30 a.m. The boys heat will follow at 12:30 p.m.
