Open Mic for poets

Village Square Booksellers (assisted by New Hampshire author and poet Jim Fowler) will host the Second Saturday Open Mic at 1 p.m. this Saturday. The Open Mic is held by having poets take turns reading from their works or a favorite book. The poets sit around a circle, so there is no need to be nervous about standing in front of a room for newbie poetry readers. Call 802-463-9404 for event reservations.


Senior Center to preview 'Caregivers' film

Filmmaker Jesse Kreitzer will be at the Brattleboro Senior Center at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, to speak about the making of his film "Caregivers" and share significant portions (10-20 minutes) of the video at a program meeting of the local AARP chapter. When and where the completed film will be screened, and its application to the concerns of aging seniors and their families will be part of the presentation. Everyone is welcome to attend and join in on the discussion. Refreshments included.

Dance scholarship deadline is May 1

The deadline to apply for scholarships from Company of Muses for summer sessions at the Brattleboro School of Dance is May 1.

Funds are available for dancers of all ages and abilities so long as the family can demonstrate need according to federal financial assistance guidelines. The amount of assistance available is determined by these guidelines, as well as the number of applicants.

Four scholarship programs are currently offered: the BSD Tuition Scholarship; the Colleen McCloskey-Meyer Ballet Scholarship; the Kathleen Keller Higher Education Scholarship; and the Community Outreach Scholarship. Everyone welcome at Circle Dance

Community Circle Dances will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays, April 14 and April 21, at Aikido Studio, 11 Cottage St. This Sunday's Circle Dance will be led by Diana Moore. The April 21 Circle Dance will be led by Anja Daniel and Jim Desmond.

Beadniks hosting Buddhist talk

Who Was Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche? One of the first and one of the most influential Tibetan Buddhist masters to bring Dharma to the West, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche remains an enigma to many. Tungpa Rinpoche, who was Rinpoche's attendant for seven years and author of "The Mahasiddha and His Idiot Servant," will speak about the Guru, Vajrayana Buddhism, and related topics at 6 p.m. Sunday at Beadniks Museum, 115 Main St.

Suggested donation $25; no one turned away for lack of funds. Please arrive before 6 p.m.; the door will then be locked as the shop will be closed.
