Artist reception: Nancy Hayes
Nancy Hayes Paintings and Sculpture: Summer Show includes large scale panels, diptychs and triptychs, and sculpture in clay.
"For over twenty five years, prior to painting, I worked in clay as a ceramic sculptor.. Painting allows me to be as honest as possible as a visual artist. It is a forum where I can be the designer, color theorist, and inventor, giving form to my creativity."
The detailed overlay of natural and geometric forms and jewel-like color work evoke cosmic, cellular or botanical motifs, expressing the dynamic flow of multidimensional structures that underlay our biological life on the planet.
Hayes has received Massachusetts Cultural Council Artist Grant and The Society of Arts and Crafts Award. Her work was included in the 2000 DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park highlighting New England's top ten artists.
On view at Gallery in the Woods, July 6 through 31.
