Bellows Falls girls have every ingredient

BRATTLEBORO — Seven members of the Bellows Falls varsity field hockey team, which capped off a perfect season this fall with a Division 1 state championship, are now hoping for similar success on the court.

"We lost in the first round of the playoffs last year, so we have some unfinished business," said BF varsity girls basketball coach Todd Wells, whose team is coming off of a 16-5 campaign.

The Terriers will host West Rutland in Saturday's season opener at 1:30 p.m.

"We graduated one senior last season and have an experienced group returning. This is a fun group to watch, and that showed by the great community support we had last season," added coach Wells.

This group seems to have it all.

Speed? Brigid Hodsden and Abbe Cravinho are defending state hurdles champions in track.

Explosiveness? Michelle Marchica struck gold in the triple jump.

Determination? Halle Dickerson, Taylor Goodell, Madison Streeter, Molly Kelly, Hodsden, Cravinho and Marchica helped the BF Stickers to a 57-game unbeaten streak.

The Terriers earned the No. 7 seed in the Division 2 playoffs last season and were then upset by Lamoille 54-51 in a playdown game. Dickerson and Goodell had the hot hands in that one, leading the way with 18 and 15 points respectively.

This could end up being a perfect senior season for the basketball team's five 12th graders — having already ridden on a fire truck through town in the fall and being part of a track team that's certainly capable of earning that type of parade in the spring.
