BRATTLEBORO — The Bellows Falls varsity girls soccer team, which is trying to win a postseason game for the first time since 2011, will debut at home against Windsor on Aug. 30 at 4:30 p.m.

"With the passion for soccer high among those who do play, the only way is up," said 18-year BF coach John Broadley, whose team went 1-13 last season. "The girls will have a strong year this year and who knows if a banner is relevant this year. The girls will have a large amount of fun along their journey."

Since reaching the Division 3 semifinals eight years ago, the Terriers have qualified for the playoffs three times — losing a first-round contest in 2012, 2014 and 2017.

"For a long time, BF has been an American football and basketball town. This year, things will be a little different for the girls' soccer program. The emphasis will be on functional play. We have spent too much time on learning how to control and dribble the ball and not enough on the 'how do we possess on the field' stuff," added Broadley.

The Terriers found some success midway through their 2018 campaign, beating Black River 3-1. Madi Pencek tallied twice and Emma Graham also scored in that match, while Hannah Dupuis picked up an assist and young goalie Corina Mitchell made four saves.

Returning BF players: Madi Pencek, Amyra Terena, Hannah Dupuis, Johannah Parker, Sydney Bazin, Izzy Stack, Layla Maiocco, Birgess Schemm, Abigail Broadley, Emma Graham, Brenna LaDuc, Breanna Stockman, Jaia Caron, MaKenna Milbauer, Corina Mitchell, Anya Taylor, Savannah Sylvester-Neal, Hayley Parker, Haley McAllister, Kathleen Dole, Madison Quint, Courtni Bird, Kaitlyn Bacon, Hannah Sheltra, Abby Wilbur, Julia Nystrom.
