BF girls win thriller

WESTMINSTER — Emma Graham poked the ball over the line with her toe after a scramble in front to give the Bellows Falls varsity girls soccer team a 2-1 victory over Sharon Academy in its Homecoming Game on Friday.

Izzy Stack had earlier put away a 27-yard free kick in the top corner to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. The visitors were able to pull even before halftime.

Bellows Falls (2-4-2) will play at White River Valley on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The Leland & Gray girls zipped Green Mountain 8-0 to improve to 6-2 on the season. Ellie Longo, Arin Bates and Emma O'Brien all tallied twice, while Izzy Ameden and Ainsley Meyer also beat the Chieftains' keeper. Sydney Hescock made a couple of saves to earn the shutout.

Central midfielder Sophie Mikijaniec scored from the top of the box in the second overtime to give Brattleboro a 1-0 win over Green Mountain. The Colonels then lost to Burr and Burton 4-0 in their Homecoming Game on Saturday.

BRATTLEBORO — On Homecoming Weekend, the Colonels outscored Green Mountain 3-1. Alex Lier tallied twice and Nick Campbell also found the back of the net for the purple and white. Luke Williams, Declyn Tourville and Damian Dierkes were all credited with an assist.

Twin Valley topped Arlington 2-2 (5-4 in penalty kicks) to win their seventh John Werner Tourney title in a row. Lucas Messing and tourney MVP Owen Grinold scored in regulation for the champs. Finn Fisher set up Messing's tally. Casey Sibilia, Colin McHale, Fisher, Grinold and Messing all converted a PK. Jack Kehoe made seven saves for the 6-1-1 Wildcats.

Riley Barton put away a sweet pass from Liam Towle with 39 seconds remaining to give Leland & Gray an exciting 2-1 win over Springfield on Saturday. Jeremy Graves scored his first career goal in the opening half. Quinn Kelloway made one save for the Rebels.

Field Hockey

BRATTLEBORO — Rachael Rooney had a hat trick to lead Brattleboro to a 4-1 Homecoming Weekend win over Fair Haven on Saturday. Katryna Jarvis also tallied for the winners, with assists going to Makenna Severance and Jessica Tatro. Maddie Johnson and Severance created scoring opportunities by driving the ball down the field. Kaylyn Bailey made three saves for the 3-5 Colonels.

Brattleboro took the junior varsity contest 8-0. Taylin Bauer went off for three goals, Mirra Macy contributed with two goals and two assists, Nicole Potter tallied twice, and goalie Brittney Wright didn't let anything past her.

Bellows Falls fell to Burr and Burton 2-0 on Friday. Jaia Caron made eight saves for the 4-5 Terriers. Jules McDermid played well on defense, according to coach Bethany Coursen.
