BHA's Cay delivers on home ice

BRATTLEBORO — The ice is in at the Nelson Withington Ice Arena at Living Memorial Park and Brattleboro Hockey Association (BHA) teams are now playing home games.

The Squirt (U10) White Hawks got the first sheet of the season last weekend, taking a 5-4 victory over the Ludlow Black Lions. Alexander Dick was impressive between the pipes and Andy Cay collected four goals including the equalizer and go ahead score after Evan Ahnert opened the scoring for the White Hawks.

The Squirt Blue Hawks fell 4-3 in a heartbreaking thriller with the Wilbraham-Twin Meadows Hawks. Nicholas Fortier was strong between the pipes while Coen Bassler scored two goals and Gabriella Fortier lit the lamp for Brattleboro as they bounced back from Saturday's 7-1 road loss to the Ludlow Lions with Matthew Lyford collecting his first goal of the year.

In preseason High School Midget (U18) action, Austin Wood shut out the Pioneer Valley Lightning Grey 1-0. The Hawks got all the offense they needed in the first period when Connor Murphy scored on a feed from Alex Hudon. The win followed a 4-2 loss to the Franklin County Hockey Association Greenwave-Warriors. Gabe Heiden had a pair of goals and Kamron Pelkey had two assists for the Hawks.
