BRATTLEBORO — The Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro invites community members to attend the annual Youth of the Year ceremony at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 17 Flat Street. The event will include refreshments provided by the Marina, an open house, and a brief ceremony announcing the winners.

This year's Youth of the Year candidates are Bella Powell, Julia Ciccone, and Parker Hubbard. With support from Boys & Girls Club staff mentors, these Brattleboro Union High School students have compiled essays, obtained letters of recommendation, written cover letters and resumes, and prepared speeches. Two Academy School students — Madison Rockafellow and Eason DeMarsico — have compiled personal portfolios in order to compete for Jr. Youth of the Year. A panel of local judges including representatives from organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Youth Services, Winston Prouty, and the Downtown Brattleboro Alliance will assess these candidates and select the winners. All Youth of the Year and Jr. Youth of the Year competitors will be treated to a night out courtesy of the 99 Restaurant and a ride from Adventure Limousines.

Youth of the Year is a national competition held by Boys & Girls Clubs across the country, supporting young people in developing leadership skills, sound character, and participating in community service and civic engagement. The high school winner will receive a $500 college scholarship donated by Brattleboro Memorial Hospital!

This event is made possible by the sponsorship from the School for International Training, Silver Forest Inc., Northeast Home Loan, The Vermont Country Store, and Oak Meadow.
