BRATTLEBORO — In the first elimination game of the 2018 Vermont District 2 finals, the No. 2 Brattleboro 12-year-old Little League All-Star baseball team shut out third-seeded Rutland in a rain-shortened game to win 8-0 on Tuesday night at the South Main Street field.

Brattleboro pitchers Charlie Clark (4 K's) and Troy Forkin (1 K) dominated the Rutland lineup and did not allow a hit.

Catcher Nick Gerard led the winners offensively with three hits and four RBI. Will Hill and Jackson Emery each contributed two hits and two runs scored. Forkin added a pinch-hit, two-run single in the second inning and Thomas Bell lofted an opposite field double in the third inning. Tucker Sargent also had a base hit for the hosts.

The defensive play of the game was a 3-6 double play started by first baseman Degan Gundry in the first inning.

This was Rutland's first year in the District 2 Tournament. While they struggled offensively, Ty Mackey (CF) and Chase de Castro (2B) each made fine defensive plays.
