Brattleboro advances to John James finals

BENNINGTON — The Brattleboro varsity boys soccer team topped Arlington, 2-1, in the opening round of the 50th annual John James Tournament on Thursday.



Nate Lewis scored 4:30 in to give the Colonels an early lead. Jackson Buettner would make it 2-0 just 30 seconds later.



A rebound goal by Arlington's William Moore made it 2-1 at the break.



Brattleboro will face Mount Anthony Union in Saturday's championship game. The Patriots defeated Burr and Burton 5-1 in the opening round.



Boys Soccer



WILMINGTON — Owen Grinold scored in overtime, assisted by Colin McHale, to give the Twin Valley varsity boys soccer team a thrilling 3-2 victory over Stratton Mountain School on Thursday evening.



Lucas Messing and Jack McHale also tallied for the victors, with a helper coming from Dylan Howe. Lucas Wiacek and Phip Farnsworth did the scoring for the Bears.



Logan Boyd made two saves for the 4-0 Wildcats.



Baseball Meeting



BRATTLEBORO — There will be an informational meeting for all baseball players born between 2000-2006 on Sunday at Tenney Field from 1:30-2 p.m.



The purpose of the meeting is to give information on Senior Legion, Junior Legion, and Post 5 Prep baseball teams for next summer, to field questions, and to gauge interest. Parents and players should attend to get necessary information.
