Brattleboro Babe Ruth team wins state title

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Babe Ruth All-Star baseball team captured the 15-year-old state championship on Sunday.

The champs went 3-0 in the tournament, beating Lyndon 19-5, outscoring Suburban 19-5, and then topping Suburban 11-4 for all the marbles. During district play, Huxley Holcombe threw a no-hitter in Game 2 and then Jeremy Graves delivered a walk-off hit in Game 3 as Brattleboro eliminated Three Corners.

Turner Clews had a team-high two hits and Caden Wood drove in five runs against Lyndon. In the first game against Suburban, Holcombe led the way with three hits and three runs batted in.

Brattleboro jumped out to an early 10-0 lead over Suburban in the finale. Zinabu McNeice exploded for three hits, while Alex Bingham ended up with three RBI.

In the three district contests against Three Corners, Brattleboro hurlers McNeice, Holcombe and Bingham struck out a dozen total batters.

Brattleboro roster: Reed Sargent, Riley McCormack, Elias Gradinger, Turner Clews, Caden Wood, Dan Tetreault, Andrew Lindsell, Alex Bingham, Jeremy Graves, Huxley Holcombe, Aaron Slade, Zinabu McNeice.
