Brattleboro Babe Ruth teams win openers

BRATTLEBORO — Zinabu McNeice threw 73 pitches and earned a victory as Brattleboro's 14-year-old Babe Ruth baseball team defeated Saint Albans 11-1 in Thursday's state tournament game on Tenney Field.

Aaron Petrie and McNeice each drove in three runs to power Brattleboro's attack. Derek Parsons tracked down a couple of fly balls in the outfield to lead the defense while Petrie (C) chipped in by throwing a runner out at second base.

Brattleboro's 15-year-old Babe Ruth team downed Saint Albans 6-3 on Thursday in Winooski.

Saint Albans 14s lineup: Connor Leach 2B, Zach Smith 1B, Brady Griffin SS, Noah Place P, Lucas Templeton LF, Charlie Yates C, Dakota Way CF, David Mount EH, Ethan Fuller RF, Jaiden Tremblay 3B. Reserve: Logan Mitchell.
