Brattleboro boys hold on versus Otters


BRANDON — The Brattleboro varsity boys basketball team scored its final 14 points of the game at the charity stripe and held on for a 56-53 win over Otter Valley on Saturday.

Point guard Tyler Millerick made nine of 10 free throws and finished with 15 points to lead the purple and white. Adam Newton followed with 13 points, Keegan Givens and Charlie Galanes added 10 apiece, and Hunter Beebe helped out with nine of his own.

The Colonels (3-4) blocked nine shots and led by as many as 10 points before the Otters made things interesting.

Boys Basketball

Jack McHale poured in 30 points to power Twin Valley past Black River 66-42. Dylan Howe (11 points, 13 rebounds) contributed with a double-double and Colin McHale added 10 points for the 2-3 Wildcats.

Hinsdale lost to Sunapee, 55-44. Greg Howard scored 18 points for the Pacers, who played their foes to a 10-10 tie over the first eight minutes of action. Dylan Harden pitched in with a dozen points for Hinsdale.

Girls Basketball

Taylor Goodell racked up 18 points and 10 assists as Bellows Falls improved to 7-0 via a 78-21 rout of Poultney. Halle Dickerson added 13 points for the Terriers.

"We boxed out and rebounded well tonight for a season-high 44 boards," said BF coach Todd Wells.

Sadie Boyd had 13 points and 10 boards when Twin Valley fell to Arlington, 46-33. Jarrett Niles (11 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists) and Katelyn Longe (7 rebounds) also played well for the 2-5 Wildcats.

Boys Hockey

Jack Pattison scored, assisted by Joe Koes, when Brattleboro was defeated by Harwood 4-1 on Saturday. Goalie Austin Wood stopped 24 shots for the Colonels.
