Brattleboro boys prevail on the courts
MANCHESTER — The Ben Brewer coaching era began on Thursday, with his Brattleboro Union High School varsity boys tennis team topping Burr and Burton 5-2.
"I was overall happy with the way our team played, being our first official match of the season. There is still a ton of room for improvement and overall we need to be much more consistent, however I am extremely proud of our guys and how they handled themselves," noted the first-year coach.
Josh Nordheim, Pablo Tunon and Ari Essunfeld all won a singles match for the Colonels. Brattleboro's duos of Rowan Kidder-Abe Moore Odell and Max Naylor-Owen Gallagher swept the doubles matches.
"He played with composure and used his weapons to his advantage," Brewer said of Nordheim, who prevailed 6-2, 6-0 over Will Simmers at No. 1 singles.
The 1-0 Colonels will play at Rutland on Saturday at 11 a.m.
