Brattleboro burns up trails in MVL meet

WESTMINSTER — The Brattleboro boys and girls cross-country teams swept the Marble Valley League meet on Tuesday at Bellows Falls Union High School.

Elery Loggia (22:28) and Mollie Patenaude (22:34) placed sixth and seventh for the Brattleboro girls team, helping it edge rival MAU 55-62 for the top spot. Thetford (68 points), Burr and Burton (103), Rutland (125), Bellows Falls (133) and Woodstock (156) also competed.

Brattleboro's Sarah Gallagher won the race in 19:17. Rounding out the scoring for the Colonels were: Annie Takacs, 10th, 21:11; Emilia Dick Fiora del Fabro, 11th, 21:20; Alexandra Miskovich, 15th, 21:40; and Liz Morse, 17th, 22:10.

Isaac Freitas-Eagan took the boys race in a time of 16:14, leading the purple and white to a 45-69 decision over runner-up MAU. Thetford placed third, Bellows Falls finished fourth, Woodstock wound up fifth, BBA ended up sixth, and Rutland took seventh.

Colin Costa-Walsh (16:49) and Trevor Kipp (17:48) placed third and 11th respectively to join Freitas-Eagan on the MVL All League Team. Bram Tabachnik (17:57) was scored in 14th and Evan Koch (18:07) finished 16th.

The Colonels will compete at Monadnock on Friday to tune up for the state championship meet on Oct. 28.
