Brattleboro girls to host semifinal Friday

BRATTLEBORO — In his first year as the Brattleboro varsity girls hockey coach, Eugene Frost has guided his team to a home semifinal game for the first time in program history.

The sixth-seeded Colonels (8-12-1) will take on No. 7 Missisquoi Valley (8-14-0) on Friday at Memorial Park at 4 p.m. No. 4 Harwood will welcome No. 8 Woodstock in the other Final 4 contest.

Tobin Lonergan had a hat trick and freshman Juliana Miskovich (2 goals, 2 assists) was also on fire when BUHS knocked out third-ranked U-32 in a quarterfinal. Liz Day (2 assists) and Liv Romo (1 assist) also contributed at the offensive end.

When the Colonels and Thunderbirds faced off during the regular season, the T-birds left town with a 2-1 victory.

The Division 2 bracket has since been busted, with top-seeded Burr and Burton and No. 2 North Country/Lyndon exiting early, setting up a playoff rematch.

The purple and white are 0-3 in semifinal appearances in program history. They last reached the Final 4 in 2011, losing to U-32 by six goals.

The entry fees to Friday's game are: $5 for students/seniors and $8 for adults. Passes will not be accepted for this contest.
