BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro varsity softball team was defeated by Keene 7-6 on Thursday at Sawyer Field.

"Hailey (Derosia) pitched very well. We have to play better behind her," said BUHS coach Kelly Markol. "She moved the ball around the plate well."

Derosia fanned five, walked one and gave up five hits.

Mya McAuliffe had two hits to lead the hosts offensively. Rachael Rooney, Garrette Shanks, Alexa Kinley, Bella Powell and Derosia all hit safely.

Natalie Hendricks was a defensive standout for the Colonels.

"We made some costly mistakes on defense and Keene took advantage of them. We definitely have to be sharper on defense. We have to learn from our mistakes and continue to grow as a team," mentioned Markol.

The 8-2 Colonels will play at rival MAU (4-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
