Brattleboro softball team stumbles on road
SAINT JOHNSBURY — Lexi Duranleau and Delaney Rankin combined for eight strikeouts as the Saint Johnsbury varsity softball team topped visiting Brattleboro 7-4 on Thursday.
"We hurt ourselves with four errors with runners in scoring position. We need to step up on defense and minimize our mistakes," said BUHS coach Kelly Markol.
Delaney Payeur and Taylor Farnsworth each finished with a couple of hits to lead the winners offensively. Saleena Porter chipped in by belting a triple.
Brattleboro's Hailey Derosia fanned eight, walked five and gave up four hits. Mya McAuliffe (2 RBI), Alexa Kinley (RBI), Brooke Barrows, Rachael Rooney and Derosia all had one hit.
The Colonels dropped to 11-4 on the season.
SAINT JOHNSBURY — Adam Newton crushed a three-run homer to power Brattleboro to an 8-5 win over Saint Johnsbury on Thursday.
Hunter Beebe (2 RBI), Tyler Millerick (1 RBI, 2 runs) and Chris Frost (2 runs) all finished with one hit for the 10-5 Colonels.
Brenden Gilbeau went the distance for the victory. The senior hurler struck out two, walked three and gave up seven hits.
Logan Wendell went 2-for-3 to pace the Hilltoppers. Jake Cady contributed with a two-run blast.
