Brattleboro stickers advance to quarterfinals

WESTMINSTER — Kharisma Boyd and Kayla Leonard-Houle each scored a goal as the seventh-seeded Brattleboro field hockey team advanced to the Division 2 quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over No. 10 Springfield on Tuesday.

"After a sluggish first half, Brattleboro came out strong in the second half," said BUHS co-coach Sherryl Libardoni. "In the second half, the Colonels forward line successfully moved the ball down the field and took many quality shots."

Boyd buried the game winner midway through the second half. Leonard-Houle added the insurance tally with 7:34 left in the game, assisted by Abby Wimer and Matea Cusack.

Brattleboro goalie Natalya Forkin recorded her second shutout in as many games. Hannah Blake and Meara Seery had some strong clears to create runs. Olivia Stent played well at both ends.

The Colonels (5-10) will play at No. 2 Spaulding (12-1) in Thursday's quarterfinal at 3:30 p.m.
