Brattleboro stickers advance to quarterfinals
"After a sluggish first half, Brattleboro came out strong in the second half," said BUHS co-coach Sherryl Libardoni. "In the second half, the Colonels forward line successfully moved the ball down the field and took many quality shots."
Boyd buried the game winner midway through the second half. Leonard-Houle added the insurance tally with 7:34 left in the game, assisted by Abby Wimer and Matea Cusack.
Brattleboro goalie Natalya Forkin recorded her second shutout in as many games. Hannah Blake and Meara Seery had some strong clears to create runs. Olivia Stent played well at both ends.
The Colonels (5-10) will play at No. 2 Spaulding (12-1) in Thursday's quarterfinal at 3:30 p.m.
BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro varsity girls soccer team finished up with a 3-12 record following losses to rival MAU and Burr and Burton down the stretch.
Twelfth graders Megyn Ayotte, Kai Boyd, Axis Balsley-Petraska, Samantha Cragin and Evy Williams were honored on Senior Night, before BUHS fell to the Patriots 2-0.
Ayotte racked up 15 saves during a 1-0 loss to the Bulldogs. Rachael Rooney and Balsley-Petraska each had a quality chance for the Colonels, who needed a win or tie in order to qualify for the Division 1 Tournament.
