Brattleboro Unified to participate in Penguin Plunge

BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Union High School Unified Sports is participating in its first ever Penguin Plunge. Six BUHS plungers will travel up to Burlington Waterfront Park in Burlington on Feb. 1, joining over 1,300 other participants to take a dip in Lake Champlain's icy waters.

Plungers are raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics Vermont as well as the local BUHS Unified program, which has expanded to include basketball, soccer, snowshoe, and Bocce. The BUHS plungers will be Lauren Allembert, CC Allembert, Keegan Allembert, Liam Thomas, Bobby Petrie and Tyler Boone.

Donations will support the tournaments that BUHS Unified participates in as well as help with equipment purchases for the local programs. Donations to support the team can be made at the following link: https://give.specialolympicsvermont.org/team/260337.

Basketball

BRATTLEBORO — The Saint Michael Saints lost to Eagle Hill School 45-25 and beat Greenwood School 42-29 in a pair of recent games. Stephen Borst and Ezra Christie played solid defense and owned the boards in the win. Michael Kelliher pumped in 14 points against Greenwood to lead the Saint Michael attack. The Saints will play at The Dublin School Tuesday and then host High Mowing School on Wednesday.

Hoop Shoot

BRATTLEBORO — Cynthia Velazques will represent this area in the girls ages 12-13 division at the Elks Hoop Shoot state finals in Barre on Jan. 25.
