Brattleboro's Gallagher finishes strong on trails

BENNINGTON — Brattleboro's Isaac Freitas-Eagan and Sarah Gallagher were the individual winners in a four-school cross-country meet hosted by rival MAU.

"The grouping of the top five Brattleboro runners was much better in this second boys meet," said BUHS coach John Dimick. "Sarah Gallagher was running in third place when the leaders entered the woods at about the halfway point. When she emerged with about a mile to go, Sarah had taken a commanding lead and raced away to an impressive win."

In the boys race, the Colonels (35 points) edged Stratton Mountain School (36) for the team title. MAU earned the bronze with 49 points and BBA took fourth with 121 points.

Freitas-Eagan finished 1st in 17:14 to lead the purple and white. Brattleboro's Colin Costa-Walsh wound up fifth in 18:20, Trevor Kipp took sixth in 18:51, Evan Koch placed 11th in 19:45, and David Pierce ended up 12th in 19:52.

The team scoring in the girls race looks like this: MAU — 39 points, Brattleboro — 44 points, Stratton Mountain School — 49 points, Burr and Burton — 95 points.

Gallagher prevailed in 20:43. Rounding out the BUHS scoring were: Annie Takacs, 8th, 23:37; Liz Morse, 10th, 23:57; Alexandra Miskovich, 12th, 24:06; and Molly Patenaude, 13th, 24:22.

The Brattleboro teams will travel to Bellows Falls on Friday for the Russ Pickering Invitational.
