Broadley prevails on trails
WESTMINSTER — Bellows Falls sophomore Abby Broadley won on her home course in a time of 18:52 during Tuesday's cross-country season opener.
Steph Ager (19:53) finished third, Victoria Bassette (21:19) placed fifth, Ashlynn Boucher (22:23) ended up 10th, and Abby Dearborn (22:52) wound up 11th to lead the defending state champions to victory.
Woodstock won the boys team event with 45 points. Tim Salter-Roy was seventh overall in 18:22 to lead the host Terriers. Bram Tabachnik (19:01) crossed the wire in 10th to pace Brattleboro.
Runners from Springfield, Green Mountain, Windsor, Hartford, Thetford and Sharon Academy also participated.
TOWNSHEND — Arin Bates had a hat trick, with one of her goals coming on a penalty kick, to propel Leland & Gray to a 7-1 decision over Twin Valley on Tuesday.
"It was a great first game for us. We possessed and passed the ball really well," mentioned winning coach Lucas Bates.
Abby Towle (2 goals) and Ansley Henderson (1 goal, 2 assists) also had huge games for the 1-0 Rebels. Alya Ryan found the back of the net and Emma O'Brien set a goal up.
Kylie Reed split the posts for the Wildcats.
