Brown brothers advance to hoop shoot finals
SPRINGFIELD — Wilmington's Landon and Brayden Brown, representing the Brattleboro Elk's Lodge, won the Southern Vermont District Elk's Hoop Shoot in Springfield on Saturday.
Landon won the ages 8-9 boys division and Brayden won the ages 10-11 boys division. In order to qualify for the competition, they both won the local hoop shoot in Brattleboro on Dec. 14.
With their victories, the Brown brothers advanced to the state finals on Jan. 25 in Barre.

BRATTLEBORO — At the Gibson-Aiken Center on Friday, Southern Vermont Sprinkler edged Rice Appraisal 60-59 and GSP Coatings outscored Lawton Flooring 59-48. Jason Hamilton scored 19 points for SVP, including the game-winning shot at the buzzer. Zane Bullins paced GSP Coatings with 18 points.
PUTNEY — The first night of the Brattleboro Youth Soccer Association's 11-week 2020 session of Skills Night for girls in grades 6-8 will take place on Thursday. The players will meet at the Putney School Fieldhouse from 7:30- 9 every Thursday night, weather permitting. This is an opportunity for girls to learn and practice their soccer skills as it pertains to dribbling, passing, receiving, movement on the field, and becoming an important contributor to a team's success with their skills, soccer knowledge, and sportsmanship. Participants should bring their own ball if they have one — if not, soccer balls will be available. Players are also asked to bring indoor soccer shoes or sneakers to change into and a water bottle. There is a one-time fee of $26 payable to BYSA for one or all 11 sessions. Participants and their parents or guardian will need to complete a player medical release form which can be found at the Vermont Soccer Association website: www.vermontsoccer.org under "VSA Forms" or will be available on site. GREENFIELD, Mass. — In recent play at Indoor Action Sports, the U14 Brattleboro Storm lost to the New England Bears 7-1, the U12 Guilford Phoenix tied the HSC Huskies 1-1, Brattleboro's high school girls entry was zipped by the Cheshire Blackbirds 1-0, the Brattleboro high school boys entry topped the Warriors 4-0, and the D2 Brattleboro boys team lost to the Valley Flash 3-0.
