BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Union High School varsity field hockey team has anything but a cupcake schedule.

The Colonels will open up against 2015 Division 2 state champion Otter Valley on Aug. 31 and face the Otters again on Sept. 6, take on 2016 D-2 champ Springfield twice, and host reigning Division 1 champion Bellows Falls on Sept. 12.

Brattleboro went 6-8-1 last season, including a 6-0 loss to Otter Valley in a Division 2 quarterfinal. Natalya Forkin made 15 saves for the purple and white in that contest.

Last year's seniors, Forkin, Kalin Noble, Gracie Frost, Mya McAuliffe and Emily Crespo, went from a 17-player team as freshmen to a 32-player team that included a JV squad last season.

BUHS coaches Sheryl Libardoni and Kelly Markol announced that the first week of practice will be Aug. 19-23, from 4-6 p.m. each day. Participants should show up at Tenney Field ready to practice.

Brattleboro's complete schedule is shown below.
