BUHS girls lacrosse team cruises

BRATTLEBORO — The No. 5 Brattleboro girls lacrosse team crushed 12th-ranked Burlington 22-2 in a Division 1 playdown game on Wednesday at Natowich Field.

Liz Day went off for seven goals and four assists to pace the victors. Tobin Lonergan followed with six tallies and two dimes.

Also contributing were Olivia Romo (3 goals), Mollie Patenaude (2 goals and 1 assist), Bri Paul (2 goals), Juni DiMatteo-LePape (1 goal) and Avalon Johnston (1 goal).

"This was a great way for us to begin the playoffs. The team looked strong and successfully implemented several things that we have been working on in practice," said BUHS coach Michael Lonergan.

The Colonels won 20 out of 24 draw controls. Tobin Lonergan took the draws, with Day, Paul and Romo gaining possession and moving the ball upfield quickly. The hosts also did a great job of moving the ball around and finding open cutters.

The 12-5 Colonels will play at No. 4 Rutland (11-4) in Friday's quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m.
