Caldwell is guest speaker at GOTR event

BRATTLEBORO — There were over 500 girls, more than 120 coaches, approximately 200 community runners, and countless volunteers at the Girls on the Run Southern Vermont 5k on Saturday at Brattleboro Union High School.

The girls danced, got their hair "happied" and faces painted with "girl power" designs, and some participants were seen doing back flips to celebrate the culmination of GOTR's 10-week empowerment program.

The guest speaker was Sophie Caldwell, who is a Vermont native, two-time Olympian (Nordic skiing in 2014 and 2018), and former GOTRVT Jr. Coach. Her main point was to "just have fun and you will always be successful."

The event was presented by Against The Grain Gourmet. Girls on the Run Vermont's after-school program is for area girls in grades 3-8.

Proceeds from the 5k event benefit Girls on the Run Vermont's Every Girl Fund. This fund helps to ensure that every girl in Vermont can participate in the program through automatic subsidies, and additional financial assistance goes to those girls who need it the most.
