Carpenter and Shetler play the blues

BRATTLEBORO — Patty Carpenter and Melissa Shetler will be playing jazz and the blues at The Lounge, 4 High St., on Friday, from 7 to 10 p.m. Backing the mother/daughter vocal duo will be Draa Hobbs on guitar, George Kaye on bass, and Claire Arenius on drums. Patty Carpenter grew up playing the piano during the 1950s in Rochester, N.Y. She also listened to folk, (and played bottleneck guitar at local coffeehouses) rock and jazz, with Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Carmen McRae among her favorite singers.

Carpenter's CD "Come Over" consists of songs written in collaboration with noted Vermont poet Verandah Porche.
