BRATTLEBORO — The Castleton University women's volleyball team finished the season with a 7-18 record.

Brattleboro Union High School graduate Gabrielle Carpenter racked up 34 kills, eight assists, 34 digs and 13 blocks during the season. She now has 92 kills, 12 assists, 76 digs and 25 blocks in her college career.

Carpenter had a season-high five kills during a 3-1 victory over Mass. Maritime on Sept. 21.

While at BUHS, Carpenter was a central defender on the pitch, a center on the basketball court, and a shot put, discus and javelin participant in track and field. She qualified for the state meet in her first year of throwing.

The daughter of Rick and Jennifer (Hamilton) Carpenter originally went to Castleton to play basketball. The Vernon resident averaged 10.5 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game for the Colonels. She also helped them win three playoff games, including two during her junior year when the purple and white became the first No. 14 seed ever in Vermont to reach the Final 4.

Among those who played both varsity basketball and soccer with Carpenter during her senior year at BUHS are Dani Wood, Kai Boyd, Hailey Derosia, Devin Millerick and Megyn Ayotte.
