Carson Thurber named SMS headmaster

Carson Thurber will be Stratton Mountain School's next headmaster, as announced by Gary Giuletti, chairman of the school's Board of Trustees.

Thurber is a Stratton Mountain School graduate, Class of 2002, and an alumnus of Babson College, where he graduated with a BS in Business Management. Thurber is currently foundation director at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, where he successfully oversaw annual giving and special events.

He was an employee of Stratton Mountain School from 2007-2015, serving in a variety of positions, including alumni relations and development, and culminating with several

successful years as assistant

headmaster, working directly with and under departing headmaster Chris Kaltsas.

In a letter announcing Thurber's appointment, Giuletti wrote:

"During his years as both a student and employee of SMS, Carson developed an understanding of and passion for the school's mission and its student population.

"This passion was clear in his daily interaction with staff and students, and in his vision for the future and continued success of the institution. Carson is uniquely suited to build on the exceptional growth and development overseen by Kaltsas during his 24-year tenure as headmaster.

"Carson's combination of love for and deep belief in the school, coupled with his extensive experience in fundraising, team building and management, make him an ideal candidate to lead SMS during its next phases of development."
