Colonel girls defeat Terriers on courts

BRATTLEBORO — On Senior Night, 12th graders Alissa Walkowiak and Paige Starkweather each won a singles match to help the Brattleboro varsity girls tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Bellows Falls on Monday.

"Everyone played great and it was an awesome way to spend Senior Night, recognizing both our seniors: Alissa Walkowiak and Paige Starkweather. Both players have made huge improvements while playing for me these last two years. I am so happy that I had the privilege to coach both of these wonderful ladies and hope that they are both successful in their future endeavors," mentioned BUHS coach Seth Marcil.

Walkowiak defeated BF's Dora Jones 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, while Starkweather downed Stephanie Holland 6-2, 6-1 at third singles. Brattleboro's Maia McNeill contributed by beating Anika Larsen 6-1, 6-0 in the fourth spot.

The Colonels swept the doubles matches, with the Amelia Harrison-Lydia Hazzard-Leal duo prevailing 6-2, 6-3 and the Cearra O'Hern-Xia Achilles tandem winning 6-3, 3-6, 10-4.

Bellows Falls got singles victories from Olivia Lauricella and Ariana Wunderle. Lauricella topped Camden Haskins 6-4, 6-2 in the second spot, while Wunderle outscored Amity Stockwell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5.
