Colonel girls to debut in Bennington tourney
BRATTLEBORO — Hailey Derosia was named the captain of the Brattleboro Union High School varsity girls soccer team, which went 3-12 last season and failed to qualify for the Division 1 Tournament for the first time since 1998.
"This year's goal is to make it to the playoffs," said BUHS coach Edwin de Bruijn.
The Colonels will begin the season in the Lady Patriot Classic, with the annual Bennington tournament taking place on Thursday and Saturday.
"As in other years, we strive to play opportunistic, attractive and attacking soccer. Instead of losing with one goal differences as happened so often last year, this season we aim to turn some close scores in our favor," mentioned the Brattleboro coach. "The combination of senior experience and four incoming freshmen, along with returning juniors and sophomores, mean we will be a team not to underestimate."
The Colonels are seeking their first winning season since going 7-6-2 eight years ago.
