Colonels cruise in Windsor
WINDSOR — Greg Fitzgerald erupted for a game-high 28 points on Monday evening to power the Brattleboro Union High School varsity boys basketball team to a 74-39 victory over Windsor.
Sam Mattocks and Charlie Galanes each followed with 14 points for the Colonels, who took a 36-20 lead to the break. Mattocks hit four consecutive trifectas in the fourth quarter.
Caden Lockwood paced the hosts with 10 points.
Brattleboro (3-3) will host Saint Johnsbury on Wednesday night at 6:30.
WESTMINSTER — Bellows Falls fell to Proctor 57-48 on Monday and dropped to 0-4 on the season.
"We did a good job of not giving up. We just dug too deep of a hole to get out of in the first quarter," said BF coach Todd Wells, whose team trailed 18-9 after the first eight minutes. "We adjusted to the speed of the game and stayed even with them for the next three quarters."
Taylor Goodell netted 19 points to power the Terriers. Molly Potter followed with 13 points, while Emily Bazin finished with a team-high seven rebounds.
Kate Longe went off for 14 points and a dozen boards, however Twin Valley lost to Mid-Vermont Christian 54-43 on Monday. Sadie Boyd scored 13 points for the Wildcats (1-4).
Women's Basketball League
BRATTLEBORO — Marina topped Houghton 38-30 and Chroma defeated Planet Fitness 53-44 in Monday's action at the Gibson-Aiken Center.
Ali Wilson (12 points), Ashley Gomarlo (11 points) and Sarah Kober (10 points) paced Marina offensively. Houghton's Annie Holiday scored a game-high 13 points.
Mary Symonds (15 points), Jackie Kissel (14 points) and Molly Barnes-Brunelle (13 points) were the top guns for Chroma. Kristyn Masse and Lilly Derosia scored 16 and 12 points respectively to lead the iron pumpers.
Marina is atop the standings with a perfect 3-0 record. After that, it's Chroma at 2-1, Houghton at 1-2, and Planet Fitness at 0-3.
Lacrosse Refereeing Clinic
HARTFORD — The Vermont Lacrosse Officials Association (VLOA) is conducting a clinic for those interested in refereeing boys high school lacrosse this spring. The clinic will be held on Jan. 19 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Hartford High School. Rule books and classroom training will be provided, with on-field training offered in March.
