Colonels, Terriers in must-see games

Posted

BRATTLEBORO — There might not be enough room on the scoreboard at Natowich Field for Friday night's outcome.

Host Brattleboro is averaging 55 points per game, including a 49-26 victory over Bellows Falls and a 61-12 win against Windsor. Visiting Union-32 is also 2-0 and has put up 109 points this season.

Can you say "shootout?"

Quarterback Nathan LaRosa has been superb for the Raiders, running for 125 yards during a 49-20 decision over Mill River and passing for 130 yards in a 60-33 rout of North Country. Alec Lemieux had a couple of TD catches in the opener, while Anthony Engelhard ran for 117 yards in Week 2.

But it's unknown if U-32 — or anyone else for that matter — can keep pace with the Colonels. Senior signal caller Tyler Millerick's numbers are just sick, including 486 passing yards, 269 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns. Not to mention, receiver Aaron Petrie already has 252 yards through the air and running back Chris Frost has 271 total yards from scrimmage.

Also on Friday night at 7, a couple of other serious D-2 contenders will face off at LaPlaca Field. It's a rematch of the 2017 state championship game.

Bellows Falls (1-1) is coming off of a 35-14 win over Mount Anthony Union. The Terriers rushed for 340 yards, with TD runs coming from Jed Lober and Jeb Monier. Harrison Gleim added a pick six and QB Griff Waryas scored on a sneak.

After losing to Division 1 Middlebury in its opener, Fair Haven (1-1) bounced right back with a 36-0 victory over Lyndon. Evan Reed threw for 237 yards and Kohlby Murray added 177 yards on the ground for the Slaters, who beat the Terriers 46-20 for all the marbles two years ago.
