Last call for Christmas trees

The Brattleboro Union High School music department's Merry Mulch Christmas tree collection program is coming to an end for the year. All orders for tree pick-up must be placed by 8 p.m. Thursday.

To request pick-up, call one of the following phone numbers: 802-254-0298, 802-254-6757, 802-380-3980. Members of the band or chorus will be completing the collection on Saturday. Requested donation is $10 per tree. Trees are taken to the community garden in West Brattleboro where they will be chipped into mulch for use by the gardeners. More than 130 trees have already been collected this year.

Skating times changed due to hockey games

Due to a Brattleboro Union High School hockey double header on Saturday, at the Nelson Withington

Skating Facility, the afternoon Public Skating will end at 3:15 p.m. and the evening Public Skating will start late, around 7:15 p.m.

Nature Days offered when children not in school

Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center will offer Nature Days on select days when children in grades K-5 are not in school.

Participants will explore the woods and fields at the Winston Prouty campus, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20; Monday, Jan. 27; Monday, March 2; and Tuesday, March 3.

Open gym, public skating expanded next week

The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department is offering additional Open Gym and Game Room hours the week of Jan. 20 to 27 for grades K-12th grade, at the Gibson Aiken Center, 207 Main St.

Open Gym & Game Room is a free program for children of all ages. It is a supervised program with a variety of activities, including basketball, foosball, air hockey, pool, arts and crafts, Legos and more. Check children in with the Recreation & Parks staff or stay and play with them.

The Gibson Aiken Center main office will be closed all day on Monday, Jan. 20, but all programs after 1:30 p.m. will run as normal.

In addition, the Recreation and Parks Department will have additional Public Skating times the week of Jan. 20 to 27, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Skate rentals will be available.
