Cravinho, Cougars will debut Aug. 30
BRATTLEBORO — Abbe Cravinho is one of nine freshmen on the Clark University field hockey team, which will open with a home game against Simmons College on Aug. 30 at 6 p.m.
The Bellows Falls graduate scored a team-high 32 goals as a senior, leading the Terriers to an undefeated season and the Division 1 championship. During the postseason, the dangerous forward had one goal and one assist versus Champlain Valley Union in a quarterfinal, she did the same against Rice in the Final 4, and then set up Madison Streeter's insurance goal in the title tilt.
Coached by Bethany Coursen, Cravinho teamed up with classmates Molly Kelly, Megan Banik, Streeter, Sophie Hyslop, Michelle Marchica, Alice Salter-Roy, Madi Joy, Brooke Bennett, Emma Lober, Emily Harris and Brigid Hodsden for an amazing 63-2-2 record. That group is also a perfect 12-0 in the playoffs, making it the most successful Vermont field hockey team ever in a four-year span.
Over the winter, the daughter of John and Jen Cravinho started at guard and helped the BF varsity girls basketball team to a 15-6 record. She went on to finish fourth in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the 300 hurdles at the Division 2 state track meet.
The Clark University field hockey team went 7-12 last season. The Cougars graduated leading scorer Olivia Barksdale, who finished her college career with 51 goals and 21 assists.
