Davis honored as Woman of Distinction
BRATTLEBORO — Karen Davis received the Woman of Distinction award from the Brattleboro branch of the American Association of University Women in recognition of her contributions to the Brattleboro community and AAUW.
Branch President Vivian Prunier made the presentation at the branch's 93rd annual dinner meeting, held recently at Bella Notte at the Brattleboro Country Club.
A native of Brattleboro, Davis was recognized for her contributions to the community, including founding the Brattleboro branch of Toastmasters International and co-founding the Brattleboro Historical Society's History Center and Museum on Main Street.
Although she left her hometown to attend college at Mount Holyoke and law school at Temple University, Davis returned each summer and eventually moved back permanently after a career in the federal government. She founded a conflict management team and became a certified mediator.
Locally, she has been involved in the Estey Organ Museum, the Brattleboro Music Center and the Brattleboro Floral Arts Club. She is co-chair of the Windham County Master Gardeners group and chair of the trustees of the Baptist Church, serving during the church's difficult decision to sell its building.
Davis holds a second-class FCC license and broadcast certification and has hosted local radio shows and produced programs on Brattleboro community television.
She is a member of the Brattleboro AAUW scholarship committee, whose chair, Norma Shakun, cited Davis as an example for the current scholarship winners of a "local girl who does good, comes back and does even more good."
AAUW advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. More information is available by contacting membership chair Gillian Winner at 802-365-7215, email@example.com or online at aauw.org.
