Exchange students seek local host families
BRATTLEBORO — Host families are needed for exchange students coming to this area through two separate programs.
Spanish students will spend three and a half weeks in southern Vermont this summer to improve their English and experience American family life. These boys and girls, who range in age from 15 to 17, arrive June 27 and depart on July 22.
They are all from the Basque region of Spain and come with their own spending money and medical insurance.
Host families provide a warm and safe home environment for the student, as well as meals. It's fine for a student to share a room with a host sibling.
Hosts also provide transportation to a meeting spot on the two days there are field trips to Boston and Six Flags.
In another program, exchange students from over 70 countries are being placed across the United States. They arrive just before school starts in August, and stay for either a semester or a full academic year. They live with volunteer hosts, and attend high school during the day. Their American host families provide loving support, housing and food.
