Giants improve to 5-0 in Little League standings

BRATTLEBORO — In a thrilling game at the Brattleboro Little League Field on Monday, the Giants rallied from a 4-0 deficit to beat the Reds 6-5 on a walk-off hit from rookie Bowen Kunkle.

Starters Hayden Avard (Giants) and Chase Austin (Reds) each pitched deep into the game, with Avard striking out seven and Austin striking out four. Down by four runs before the third inning, Mark Richards got the Giants on the board by walking and scoring their first run on a booming RBI triple from Cooper LaFlam. Richards and LaFlam did more damage in the next inning, when Richards hit a two-run single and LaFlam got another base hit. Jameson Garvey completed the comeback with an RBI groundout to tie the game at four.

Donnevhan Hall entered the game off the bench and contributed two hits, including a long double in the bottom of the sixth inning. He would later score the winning run on Kunkle's walk-off single.

The Reds continued to play tough in the 2019 season. Austin pitched into the sixth inning, while ripping two hits and scoring twice out of the leadoff spot. Catcher Mason North knocked in a run in the first inning and laid down an expert bunt in the fifth inning. Asher Jackson added an RBI single. Rookies Carlos Torres and Logan Waite split second base duties and both excelled defensively.
