Hayward garden featured on tour

WESTMINSTER — Gordon Hayward - a local landscape designer, writer, and teacher - will be among those featured at the Westminster Garden Tour scheduled for July 20-21 and organized by Westminster Cares.

Hayward gave a talk to some 45 garden enthusiasts on June 6 at the Westminster Institute. His talk, titled The Intimate Garden, demonstrated how to see your garden in a new way. He shared how he and his wife, Mary's, experiences are woven into their garden and how they have stayed true to the design of the land and the Ranney farm, as it was known before. They designed their 1.5-acre garden to reflect those principles.

The Haywards' gardens will again be featured during the Westminster Garden Tour. In addition, the gardens of Cyndy Fine of Genius Loci and garden blogger Alice Laughlin will be on the tour. Miles Chapin's outdoor sculptures will be displayed throughout the Hayward gardens.

Westminster Cares is a nonprofit organization, formed in 1988, that works with seniors and disabled adults in Westminster, to help them remain healthy and independent in the community.
