BRATTLEBORO — Hilltop Montessori School (HMS) has achieved full accreditation from the American Montessori Society (AMS).

Officials at Hilltop say this is the culmination of growth and experience gained since its founding in 1972 as a one room parent co-operative preschool. Hilltop Montessori School has grown steadily to its current enrollment of 119 students ages 18 months to 14 years at the campus off of Guilford Road and Summit Circle.

The school did an extensive self-study resulting in a 200-page document submitted to AMS a year ago. Hilltop later hosted three Montessori credentialed assessors who looked at all aspects of the school to verify that it is an authentic Montessori school.

Accreditation by the AMS is considered the gold standard of Montessori school excellence — the highest level of recognition a Montessori school can achieve, and a highly visible indicator of the school's quality. Currently, only about 15 percent of AMS member schools are AMS-accredited.

Parents and individuals interested in the school are welcome to join in for a Tuesday Tour from 10 to 11 a.m. or come by for an Open House from 9 to 11 a.m. on either Tuesday, Dec. 3, or Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2020.
