Hilltoppers sweep BUHS basketball teams

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Union High School varsity girls basketball team fell to visiting Saint Johnsbury, 54-36, on Tuesday night.

"Mya (McAuliffe) came in and brought a spark on both sides of the ball, and had a big basket on an excellent post move," said BUHS coach Paul Freed, whose team trailed 12-7 entering the second quarter. "Our brightest spot was Nicole Norcia, who is gaining more confidence and hit a three and a long two."

Reigning Brattleboro Reformer Athlete of the Week Rachael Rooney led BUHS with 11 points and five rebounds. Hailey Derosia contributed with eight points and seven boards.

The Colonels (3-4) will host Hartford on Friday night at 7. Their Jan. 20 home game versus Mount Mansfield at 2:30 p.m. will be the annual Coaches vs. Cancer event.

Boys Basketball

SAINT JOHNSBURY — Antonio Carlisle exploded for 24 points to help the Saint Johnsbury varsity boys basketball team to a 71-29 rout of Brattleboro on Tuesday evening.

Rian Hayman-Jones followed with a dozen points for the 3-2 Hilltoppers, who took a 41-16 lead to the break. Alex Carlisle netted 10 points.

Kyle Derosia finished with eight points to pace the 0-6 Colonels.
