Hinsdale baseball team on short end
HINSDALE, N.H. — His teammates called out "Hey Sugar" each time Sam Crisp dug in during Monday's varsity baseball game along Route 119.
After all, the lefty's swing was pretty sweet.
Crisp lined a two-run single to center to highlight Portsmouth Christian's five-run third inning as the Eagles soared to an 11-4 victory over host Hinsdale.
Five errors in the first three frames helped the visitors build a quick 11-1 lead. Harrison MacDougall, Will Holman and Maxx Spineli all had an RBI single in that span, while Will Kuzman chipped in with a run-scoring double and Crisp added the two-run single.
The Pacers had a couple of memorable swings, including Dylan Harden's lead-off double in the first and Jason Cowan's triple — that almost got to the swimming pool parking lot — in the third. Catcher Andrew Lindsell wowed the crowd defensively, gunning down attempting base stealers Thomas Mylanarski and Holman.
"Let's just chip away at it," said Hinsdale coach Sam Kilelee. "We can't get it all back at once."
It was Lindsell's single to left in the first that scored Harden to get the hosts on the board. Cowan's triple drove in a second run in the third and Garrett Carrier followed with an RBI groundout. Ryen LeClair bunted and eventually scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring in the fourth.
"Nice wheels," a Hinsdale teammate yelled after LeClair beat out the bunt, raced to third on an overthrow and sprinted home as the ball reached the backstop on a pitch.
Dan Tetreault finished with two hits to lead the Pacers offensively. Bryce Lindsell-Kraus and Cowan took turns on the hill.
Hinsdale ends the regular season with a 7-9 mark.
