Hinsdale's St. John earns $1,000 scholarship

KEENE, N.H. — Scores Running Club's 2020 high school scholarship winners are Monadnock Regional High School's Sadie Lorenz, Hinsdale High School's Maggie St. John, and Keene High School's Jake Velazquez. Each of these student athletes will receive a $1,000 scholarship from Scores Running Club to assist with further education.

St. John has participated in basketball, cross country and track while at Hinsdale High School. In cross country, she is a four-time All Conference athlete, a three-time All State athlete and a four-time Meet of Champions qualifier. In track, she has three All Conference awards, and she holds six school records. St. John is the Hinsdale High School National Honor Society president, and she is the senior class vice president. She plans to attend the University of New Hampshire where she will continue running cross country and track.

Lorenz has been on the cross country, indoor track and outdoor track teams all four years at Monadnock Regional High School. Her accomplishments in athletics include becoming a New Hampshire All State cross country athlete. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and she is also the senior class president. She plans to attend the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

Velazquez is a four-year letter winner in cross country and track at Keene High School. He holds the school record in the 5K. He took 1st place in both the 2019 New Hampshire Division 1 State Cross Country Meet and the 2019 New Hampshire Meet of Champions. He is also the 2019-2020 Gatorade Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year for New Hampshire. Velazquez plans to attend the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, where he will run cross country for the River Hawks.

Scores Running Club of Keene, N.H. is a non-profit organization serving youth running and health and fitness related causes in the community. Each year the club presents three $1,000 scholarships to outstanding student running athletes from Cheshire County high schools.
