Jump into the creation of improvised music through group improvisations, game-pieces, free play and more with Anna Patton and Wendy Eisenberg.
For all instrumentalists and vocalists willing to experiment with improvisational play. No experience is needed as long as you have a curious ear and a willingness to make things up. Anna and Wendy will engage participants in various techniques that will encourage participants to free their creativity through spontaneity. The program will also provide a preview of Wendy’s new improvisation class starting September 19th at the Vermont Jazz Center.
Anna Patton is a clarinetist who performs in a full spectrum of styles. She teaches vocal and instrumental ensemble classes and music theory. Her ear training and harmony class will also be at 118 Elliot weekly on Thursdays this fall. In 2006, Anna started the Soubrette Jazz Choir at the Vermont Jazz Center which performs her creative arrangements of historical and contemporary American music. In 2015, Anna completed her Masters of Music in New England Conservatory's Contemporary Improvisation program.
Guest host Wendy Eisenberg is an accomplished improvising guitarist, banjo-player, vocalist and poet. Using the languages of free jazz, new music, metal and art song, the music challenges the representational and technical demands placed on a guitar and a banjo in contemporary music. Two recent releases “Its Shape Is Your Touch,” and “The Machinic Unconscious, made Billboard’s Critic’s Choice Top Ten Jazz Records year end list in 2018, and received features and attention from NPR and National Sawdust.
