Holiday support offered to bereaved families

Posted

BRATTLEBORO — Atamaniuk Funeral Home is sponsoring its 21st annual Holiday Support Program and A Service of Remembrance on Monday, Dec. 9, for bereaved families and friends. The event will again be held at the Carl M. Dessaint V.F.W. Post Home, 40 Black Mountain Road, at 7 p.m. The public is invited free of charge.

Celebrating the holidays without a loved one can be one of the most strenuous events for a grieving family. Often celebrations and special family traditions are difficult for the bereaved.

During the program, speakers will share specific ways of coping with the holiday season and provide helpful booklets and brochures. There will be a candle lighting ceremony in honor of all families that have experienced a loss. Each deceased family member will be remembered that evening. Afterwards refreshments will be served.

The program is open to everyone, not just families that were served by Atamaniuk.

Featured speaker will be Dr. Anne Black, a local grief therapist who is the founder and executive director of The Warrior Connection since 2010. Her business provides therapy for combat veterans concentrating on resolving loss, healing moral injury and mitigating and reducing PTSD symptoms. Black has authored several books, and conducted workshops in the field of bereavement and aftercare.

Special music for this year's program will again feature local musician and composer Bill Shontz.

To learn more about the upcoming holiday program, contact Michael Atamaniuk at Atamaniuk Funeral Home Inc., 40 Terrace Street, Brattleboro, or call 802-254-8183. For those families who plan on attending, reservations are requested since seating may be limited.
