Hoops for Hope is Jan. 18-19

TOWNSHEND — The fifth annual "Hoops for Hope Country Strong" event will be held at Leland & Gray Union Middle High School next week.

The Rebels will host Black River in a pair of girls basketball games on Jan. 18, with JV starting at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m. The Leland & Gray JV boys basketball team will tip off with Green Mountain on Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity action to follow at 7 p.m.

Any fans that wear pink, purple, or camo to the games will receive a door prize ticket.

The concessions and 50/50 tickets will benefit the Alexis Giallella Scholarship. Lexy, who started hunting at age 10 and dreamed of becoming a state cop, died at age 15 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Boys Hockey

BRATTLEBORO — Austin Wood made 21 saves to help the Colonels to a 3-1 victory over Missisquoi Valley on Wednesday night at Memorial Park.

Mason Powers, Ryan Gerard and Mason Foard all lit the lamp for the winners. Kam Pelkey, Jasper Reed and Powers set those tallies up.

The 4-4-1 Colonels, who were out shot 22-16, will welcome Colchester on Saturday at 4:45 p.m.

Rec Basketball

BRATTLEBORO — In men's league action on Wednesday night, GS Coating defeated Southern Vermont Painting 88-65 and Walker Farm outscored Rick's Tavern 87-46.

Zane Bullins went off for 25 points to pace GS Coating. Chad Pacheco (21 points) and Isaac Earl (17) did the damage for the Painters.

Walker's Oakley Payne-Meyer finished with a game-high 24 points. Jeremy Werner (12 points) and Kenny Howe (10) led the way for Rick's Tavern.
